New Work: Illustration for The Buzzer, The Olympic Issue

The Buzzer

All thanks to Jane, I was lucky enough to be invited to illustrate for the cover of the February issue of The Buzzer. The subject matter is about TransLink providing extended services to accommodate the higher demand expected for the Winter Games in Vancouver. Super excited!

Below are the sketches of some ideas.

Lila in the making

In studio, making books

Night journey page

Stacks of goodies

Sumo page being scored

I got these 12″ x 18″ colour pages printed a bit ago and finally found the time to work on it at the studio. I can’t wait to finish them… I’ve still got a long way to go. 20 books = 240pages to score and fold = 24 end papers = 120 cuts for the millboards = 20 screen printed covers…

I can do this…

Things to Learn

Something simple and endearing. A recent treasure.

Christian Borstlap recently finished these deliciously simple animated illustrations for Dutch children’s charity, Kinderpostzegels.

Paul Postma did a great job of bringing Christian’s colourful illustrations to life, complimenting them with a playfully restrained animation style to really let their personalities shine.

New Work: Innov8tion Days of Christmas

With some fun brainstorming sessions a few weeks before Christmas, Marc, Nicole, and I came up with this electronic book of Innovation for our clients. I had lots of fun designing and illustrating the ideas. Enjoy!

New Work: A Real Happy Unicorn

While busy doing a million different things, I finally found a day and picked up my pen to draw for an open design competition called the Happiness: the Tribute 21 Plate Challenge.

I wanted to take the opportunity as an excuse to draw more about happiness. Instead of using Lila, I wanted to create something new and fun. enjoy!

Lila and Her Ever-So-Happy Expedition is now officially copyrighted. I know that I may be making a bigger deal than it actually is. This certificate feels more like a birth certificate than anything else. It’s the first book I’ve ever written and illustrated, so I’m excited. Thanks for everyone who’s helped me out in making this happen. I’m planning on self-publishing this book for its first limited edition run in a more manageable size. Please leave me a comment below if you’re interested in finding out more details. Or, simply write me an e-mail if you’re shy.

Launch birthday: July 23rd, 2009.

Hello there! Thank you for stopping by and spending some time on the site.

First of all, sorry for being a nerd and set a birthday for my site. I’m just really excited because I’ve been looking forward to this launch for forever. With family living on the other side of the Pacific Ocean, it’s indescribable how awesome it is for me to be able to finally show them my work properly. Now, instead of having to hold up my poster and books to the webcam, my parents can finally see my work non-wobbly and non-chopped off. Thanks to Daryl for making this possible. Thanks also to Mark who has helped me create the wonderful favicon of the glass of orange juice that gets filled up indefinitely.

Please leave me a note and let me know what you think of the site. I would really appreciate it. Or just leave me a note and say hi. I’d be grateful for that, too.
